DH's cousin's daughter is getting married next month. I was looking through their registry and saw they had registered at Heifer International. Instead of gifts for them, they registered for earnings opportunities for families. Here's one of the listings. I think this is an AWESOME idea!

We did a read-a-thon at school a couple years back, where we used the proceeds to buy/donate animals from them. It's a great organization!

    (But I don't see a listing...)

That is an amazing project. I participated in this once for Josh through his school.
They donated animals to 3 families. No llamas though.

I'm in for a share of donating a llama! Could it be done on that site Steve used for the workshop?

Kickstarter? No, it doesn't meet their project criteria, unfortunately.

If we really wanted to donate a llama, I think you can probably do it through Heifer International's website. I doubt it would have to be on someone's registry to do it. You can donate a whole llama ($150) or a share of a llama ($20).

ETA: Yup, just as I thought.

I just pictured a box arriving with an ear in it or a hoof, with a note, Here's a share of a llama. I had a 3 hour meeting with my MOM, and an estate planner today. I so need to destress.

I bet it wouldn't be that hard to get 15 of us to come up with $10 each to do this.

I think I've mentioned it before, but my Grandparents spent a few years living in Bolivia. First they were sent there by Utah State University (my grandfather was an agronomist) for a year or so then a few years later they went back as missionaries for our church for three years. They sent us each our own little llama doll and I remember having a wool poncho with llamas on it that they sent me too.

They do have a "Team Heifer" page that allows you to team up with people to raise funds.

And unfortunately, they don't have a shiny squirrel program. I would be all over that. LOL!

Our church kids go to Heifer ranch every three years too. It is in Arkansas and has a global village role playing thing as well as service projects.

Ok, so we need a total of $150 to donate a llama. I am willing to coordinate this. Everyone who wants in - sign up here. Once we know how many people we can figure out the donation each. You can send me a check or paypal and I will donate the llama. Should we make in honor of someone?

Where should we sign up? Just a little confused (not unusual). I will definitely participate.
